Weather in a Box Privacy Policy

Effective date: 5 October 2026

Weather in a Box runs its simulations entirely on your device. It does not collect or share any personal information and has no user accounts, advertising, analytics or in-app purchases. The only time it goes online is when you choose to load a real weather balloon sounding, which is downloaded from NOAA.

Who provides the app

Weather in a Box (Android package dk.greenleaf.weather) is provided by Greenleaf in Denmark. Contact us at [email protected] for privacy questions or requests. Greenleaf is responsible for personal information you send us directly, such as support correspondence.

Simulation data and local storage

The app computes the weather, the landscape and the results on your device. It stores your preferences, compiled graphics shaders and downloaded soundings in the app's local storage. Diagnostic logs may also be written locally. None of this is uploaded to Greenleaf or anyone else.

Weather balloon soundings

If you load a real sounding, the app downloads two files over HTTPS: the public list of weather balloon stations, and the latest data from the station nearest to the place you chose. Both come from the Integrated Global Radiosonde Archive at www.ncei.noaa.gov, run by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA's servers receive your public IP address, the time of the request, the file requested and technical information such as the app's user agent, as any web server does. The request shows which station was used, not your own location. See the NOAA privacy policy.

The place you search near is used on your device to find the nearest station and is not sent anywhere. Everything else in the app works offline.

No tracking

The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs and does not use the advertising ID. Its only permission is internet access for the soundings. It does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or other personal data.

Google Play

Installing and updating the app through Google Play is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Google may provide Greenleaf with aggregated, non-identifying statistics such as install counts and crash reports through the Play Console, according to the settings on your device.

Support correspondence

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information to respond to and resolve your request, and retain it only as long as needed for that and related follow-up, or to meet applicable legal requirements. Where EU data-protection law applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in providing support. We do not sell personal information or use support messages for advertising.

Retention and deletion

Preferences, caches and downloaded soundings remain on your device until you remove the app's data or uninstall the app. On Android, you can remove them through Settings > Apps > Weather in a Box > Storage > Clear storage (wording varies by device).

There is no Greenleaf account to delete. You can contact [email protected] to request access, correction or deletion of personal information held by Greenleaf (in practice, only support emails). Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restriction, objection and portability. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, including the Danish Datatilsynet.

Children's privacy

The app does not ask anyone for their name, age, contact details or an account, and collects no personal information from any user, including children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to Greenleaf by email, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the app's data practices change, for example if more online features or purchases are added, and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or store listing where appropriate.
